OVERVIEW
Lake Titicaca is considered the birthplace of the Inca empire located at 3,812 meters above sea level, is home to a population that took advantage the properties of the totora an aquatic plant similar to a cattail using their knowledge to integrate it as basic resource in their lifestyle.
The Uros, are one of the first populations in the highlands dedicated to fishing, bird hunting and gathering, their original language being Uroquilla, Puquina and later Aymara.
The floating islands of the Uros, currently make up more than 100 islands that stand out due to their characteristic way of using the cattail (which is found in the same lake) as the main construction element and making the constructions by hand, which take a time between one and three months approximately.
The islands are built with the roots of the totora, while the houses and rafts in the shape of a feline are built with the totora.
The origin of the construction of the first floating island varies according to each person; however, most versions have in common the factor of preserving their culture. The stories say that the aurochs, rejecting the subjugation of other cultures over their own, decided to emigrate to a place where they would not be reached, which is why they decided to settle on the highest navigable lake in the world.

This day we will enter a fascinating experience among the magical waters of Lake Titicaca, in the world of the "children of the lake", the Uros, a population that inhabits the waters of Lake Titicaca.
This tour will begin with the pick-up of our passengers (according to the chosen schedule) from their hotels (only in the center of the city), to transfer them to the port of the city of Puno, from where we will depart aboard on motor boat to the awesome floating islands. Upon arrival we will visit 2 of them.
- First Island: The family island, where they will give you an explanation about the activities they carry out, history, culture, construction techniques for the floating islands and impressive totora-based rafts. In addition to being able to take a ride (optional) on a reed raft the "Mercedes Benz de Los Uros".
- Second Island: Known as the main island of the Uros, it has a small handicraft market, grocery stores where you can find snacks, coffee ore use the services, as well as ask for the souvenir stamp for your passport.
Between these 2 islands, the families will offer you a short ride lasting approximately 15 minutes in the totora boats (optional, additional cost is between S/. 10.00 to S/.15.00 Soles).
Once the visit is over, we will return to the city of Puno and transfer our passengers to their respective hotels.
